The movie sags after Mary's weak-willed acquiescence to crime, instantly turning her into a dull-eyed monster.. Writer-directors Jen and Sylvia Soska don't seem to have their material completely under control, but they've created a worthy entry in the Freaks school of cult cinema.. Never satisfyingly accounts for how the unseen puppeteer manages to keep a constant eye on Elliot's every move..
